Since the start of 2024, Boeing’s stock is down -58.58 (-23.27%) year to date (as of March 28th at 4pm EST). It’s at risk of being downgraded after the FAA capped the production of their 737 Max jetliner.
Eleven weeks after the Alaska Airlines (flight 1282) incident, Boeing's shaking things up at the top. CEO Dave Calhoun and a couple of others are bowing out. Stan Deal, the boss of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, is retiring. Larry Kellner, the head of Boeing's board, won't run again. Their departures are are like a cabin panel in the wind - no pun intended.
😏 Back in January, Calhoun publicly described the incident as “our mistake.” - “Nahhh really Davey?, who else is to blame.”
👋 He’s stepping down this year with a $24 million payday. “Hey Davey, Don’t let the door hit you, where the good lord split you.”
✉️ On Monday Calhoun sent this email message to all Boeing employees.
Boeing's issues have damaged its reputation. The FAA wants more focus towards safety after Boeing failed 33 of 89 audits, with 97 noncompliance cases. To fix this, Boeing may buy Spirit AeroSystems for better quality.
👀 🔍 Boeing's cultural issues: recent or longstanding? Journalist Bill Saporito examines McNerney's role in developing the 737 Max. He was CEO from June 2005 to July 2015.

👀 Looking back…Boeing’s timeline of their 737 Max plane problems since the start of 2024.
🏛️ Passengers of flight 1282 have filed lawsuits against Boeing and Alaska Airlines but both deny liability.
🎯 Boeing is revisiting its defense strategy, considering a sale of its surveillance division. “Maybe they can put the extra capital towards quality control.”
🎥 “This PBS Frontline documentary on Boeing's 737 Max troubles might be the last thing they want. Or it's exactly what they need."
