America is so hot right now

Phew! We’re all in a hot zone right now, but the north-east is getting scorched this weekend. There were numerous heat records broken this weekend, with over 135 million Americans facing 90°F+ heat and heat indices hitting 100-105°F.

New York City has kept cooling centers open through the weekend and has implemented measures to assist vulnerable populations. Some schools in areas north of New York City released students early due to the heat. The heat wave also wreaked havoc on power grids, causing outages.

This record-breaking heat wave has us all wishing we could hug our air conditioners and never let go!

Notable temperature records:

•  🔥 Death Valley, California: one of the hottest places on Earth recorded a new daily high at 122°F.

• 🌡️ Hartford, Connecticut: hit a record 98°F.

• ☀️ Boston, MA: shattered a century-old heat record, reaching 98°F, the previous record was 96°F set in 1923.

🥵 Looking ahead…Mother Nature isn't done with her hot flash. The heat is expected to continue into next week and potentially into early July.

😡🤨 Boeing's Hot Seat: CEO Grilled on Safety

Why don’t you resign…

Talk about a turbulent Tuesday for Boeing's CEO. Dave Calhoun faced intense scrutiny at a congressional hearing over the company's safety practices. Families of crash victims confronted Calhoun, holding photos of their loved ones who perished in the two 737 Max accidents that claimed 346 lives in 2018 and 2019.

• 🤬 Senators blasted Calhoun's $33 million salary, with one calling his continued employment "a travesty." Victims' families are demanding a $25 billion fine against Boeing.

• 😡The hearing follows accusations that Boeing compromised safety standards in aircraft production.

Calhoun apologized, saying "I'm very sorry your family members died in the crashes. Safety is most important to us." But whistleblower allegations of mishandled parts and concealed information from FAA inspectors raised serious concerns. 🤨 

The Justice Department is considering whether to prosecute Boeing for violating terms of a previous settlement related to allegations of misleading regulators who approved the 737 Max plane. The FAA and NTSB have ongoing investigations into Boeing following recent incidents.
